We are a group of concerned citizens who believe that the current
concept of a Parkway is outdated and needs to be removed from the official plan.
We believe that using green space in urban areas to build new roads is an
outdated policy and should be changed.
We also feel that the proposed official plan amendment and any other planning projects should be postponed until such time as the large green space areas, including Jackson's Park, are protected.
Building the parkway would drive a stake through the heart of Peterborough - it's neighborhoods. Thousands of people who live, work and go to school along this corridor would be adversely affected by noise and pollution. Hundreds of school children cross this area every day as there 5 schools adjacent to the proposed route.
It is the intention of this group to lobby city council, to support a candidate in the next municipal election and to file an OMB appeal if necessary. Donations are necessary to achieve these goals.
